Located in the vicinity of Sadr City, the volatile home of Muqtada Al-Sadr and the Mahdi Army, both the Farabi and Jamila substation projects have required innovative approaches in these violence-stricken areas.
Working seamlessly with Symbion partner and part owner Hart Security we have taken every precaution to protect our employees and our local partners. In an effort to reduce exposure in this dangerous environment, we conducted extensive training at a more secure location in Iraq and at Alstom facilities in Europe.
We faced the challenges of major combat operations in Sadr City. These caused serious disruption of the work schedule. Symbion specializes in working in these difficult environments and we continue to succeed despite the challenges.
The Jamila project called for the construction of a new 132/33kV Substation in a brown field site. This included the design engineering, procurement, supply, erection, training and warranty of this Gas Insulated Substation, despite regional challenges and flare-ups of violence.
The Farabi Substation is a new 132/33kV Gas Insulated Substation of similar design to the substation in Jamila.
